Please spread the word to any and every one!

The Hubbell Library’s annual Christmas Tree and Holiday Gift sale will take place Saturday, November 28th and Sunday, November 29th, from 9 am to 9 pm each day. This event is a major fundraiser for the historic Algiers Point library, and it features absolutely beautiful FRESH CUT trees and wreaths from North Carolina. The trees are great value, and still at least forty percent of sales go to the library.

Algiers Point’s beautiful Cita Dennis Hubbell Branch is the oldest library in the city, a New Orleans treasure. It’s 102 years old, and part of the Carnegie legacy. Due to catastrophic termite damage, the library is closed for repairs. Friends of the Hubbell Library have been working hard to make it possible for this beautiful branch to be restored and reopened, and the tree sale is part of that effort.

Because the library is closed for repairs, this year’s sale will take place three blocks away, at Gulf Pizza, the old Gulf Service Station at 446 Pelican Avenue in Algiers Point. The Gulf station, at the corner of Pelican Avenue and Verret Street, was the site of the first tree sale held to benefit the library, nearly thirty years ago.

Assemblage 23!

We are pleased to announce that we have signed Assemblage 23 to come down here and play for us on April 12th. They'll be performing at the Howlin Wolf, and backed up by Angel Theory, all the way from Melbourne Australia and our own Suicide Assyst. Of course there will be an afterparty, of course it will be at the Ruby, and certainly Charles Fenech, the man behind Angel Theory will be djing it.

More information to come, but mark your calendars, kids. This is the kind of show that keeps me in this crazy business.
