Hubbell Holiday Gift Fair and Christmas Tree Sale THIS WEEKEND!

This weekend -- Algiers Point is THE place to be, for sure!
Buy your Christmas trees and wreaths at the Hubbell Holdiay Fest, and support a SUPER GREAT cause! Also: holdiay gift shopping, Santa, book signings, movies, and more!
Saturday is also Holidays on the Point (
AND: A Christmas Dog Walk!
Please spread the word to any and every one!

The Hubbell Library’s annual Christmas Tree and Holiday Gift sale will take place Saturday, November 28th and Sunday, November 29th, from 9 am to 9 pm each day. This event is a major fundraiser for the historic Algiers Point library, and it features absolutely beautiful FRESH CUT trees and wreaths from North Carolina. The trees are great value, and still at least forty percent of sales go to the library.

Algiers Point’s beautiful Cita Dennis Hubbell Branch is the oldest library in the city, a New Orleans treasure. It’s 102 years old, and part of the Carnegie legacy. Due to catastrophic termite damage, the library is closed for repairs. Friends of the Hubbell Library have been working hard to make it possible for this beautiful branch to be restored and reopened, and the tree sale is part of that effort.

Because the library is closed for repairs, this year’s sale will take place three blocks away, at Gulf Pizza, the old Gulf Service Station at 446 Pelican Avenue in Algiers Point. The Gulf station, at the corner of Pelican Avenue and Verret Street, was the site of the first tree sale held to benefit the library, nearly thirty years ago.

In addition to gorgeous Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands, this year’s sale will feature a terrific selection of holiday gifts – cookbooks and other great local-interest books from Pelican Publishing, jewelry from Jamie Stank, Simply Grace and Fleur d’Orleans, plus local arts and crafts.

Special events include:
** Photos with Santa on Saturday from 12:30 to 4:30
** Booksignings on Saturday at 11am and Sunday at 1pm
** An Arts Market, from 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday
** A screening of "It's A Wonderful Life" at 8pm on Saturday
** Trees, wreaths and garland available while they last, 9am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday

This is a great opportunity to support our neighborhood library – help us ensure that it will be repaired and reopened – while getting the most beautiful Christmas trees and great holiday gifts from local artists and businesses. Plus, it’s a fun event right in the middle of Algiers Point, where you can also sample our great restaurants and cafes, as well as Old Point Bar and Rosetree Glass – another source of great Christmas gifts.

Saturday the 28th will be a particularly big day, with Holidays on the Point, featuring special events all day and night at each of Algiers Point’s businesses, a sunset concert at the levee, caroling and more. There is also a Christmas Dog Walk to benefit the Humane Society of Louisiana.
